Military commentators on Twitter this afternoon pointed out what seems to be a slight error in an image from the Donald Trump campaign.
In a patriotic mockup of an American flag (featuring The Donald’s dumb mug front and center), some soldiers in the background are doing soldier things. A little hat-tip to our troops, right? Well, perhaps not. Because, well, sorry, Donald: Those are Nazis.
@realDonaldTrump @20committee are those troops in the bottom Wehrmacht?! #falseflag

I do hope @JebBush asks The Donald about the Waffen-SS soldiers in his campaign ad…make that Aug 6th debate special pic.twitter.com/C2hC1MTYuR

SS troops, to be precise, if these commentators are correct. They sure don’t look like our boys, we can say that much.
Earth-shattering? No. It’s actually kind of silly. But so is his campaign, so fuck it.
We emailed the Trump campaign (and we’re still getting used to typing that) for comment and will update if we hear back.
Ah, the dangers of stock imagery.
UPDATE 4:25 p.m.:
It looks like another Twitter user has found the original image, of some WWII-era re-enactors.
