The 2015 Gotham Girls Roller Derby Championship Match was held on August 29th 2015, at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Gymnasium. Inside the gym, two home teams, the Brooklyn Bombshells and the Queens of Pain, squared off jamming, juking and blocking their way to points. Roller Derby is a fast paced sport that drew a wide variety of people. With the stakes so high, as only one team would earn the Golden Skate trophy, the venue was sold out. Fans of both teams packed the gym and participated in a raffle. There was also a halftime performance from a drum troupe and the Gotham Girls cheerleaders. Chassis Crass, one of founders of the league in 2003, was also on hand to meet the fans during the break.
Queens of Pain team leader Suzy Hotrod seemed to have the most supporters based on the cheers during her jams. But no matter how much love players from both sides got, only one team could leave the winner. This year the Brooklyn Bombshells took home the trophy as they topped the Queens 186-171. Before the after-party, players lingered to sign autographs.
