Best Comic Book Store

by

Located just below a Lenny’s sandwich shop, The Mysterious Time Machine (formerly Roger’s Time Machine) is a small but vital oasis for comic book and memorabilia lovers. While the store’s cozy, longbox-filled Lower West Side location seems inaccessible from its subterranean doorway (use the stairs at street level), the Time Machine’s staff, led by generous owner Roger Williams, can make even the most apprehensive patron feel welcome. Without being too pushy, Williams and his crew guide customers to whatever they’re seeking, from old issues of Famous Monsters of Filmland to relatively new issues of Deadpool. And if Williams doesn’t seem to have what you’re looking for on hand, don’t despair: He and his staff are still reorganizing their vast collection after moving the majority of their wares from their original 14th Street location in March 2014. If you buy in bulk, the staff always tries to give you a marked-down “wholesale” deal. The Mysterious Time Machine is, in that sense, the rare comics store for fortysomething diehards and their relatively innocent spawn. 418 Sixth Avenue, Manhattan 10011, 212-691-0380, facebook.com/mysterioustimemachine
