Kanye West, the Strokes, Robyn and More to Play Governors Ball 2016

Yeezus just rose again, as did a chorus of “YEAAAAAAAAH!!!“-es from the followers of the Cult of Casablancas: the Governors Ball 2016 lineup is out, and it’s the most heavy-hitting display of musical might the festival’s seen in years.

Kanye West, the Strokes, the Killers, Beck and Robyn round out the top tier of talent for the festival, which will take place at Randalls Island June 3-5. Plenty of these acts will continue to tour in support of their 2015 triumphs, like Courtney Barnett, Father John Misty, Miguel, Chvrches, Vince Staples and more. The inclusion of some notable lineup picks doubles as a bit of a crystal ball reading: Kanye’s headliner status basically guarantees the drop of new music in the coming months, Haim are due for a new record (though the Gov Ball crowds are still likely to lose their minds to “The Wire”), and rock fiends are chomping at the bit for new Gary Clark, Jr. material. That’s to say nothing of the NYC pride shown on the lineup: Action Bronson, De La Soul, Matt and Kim, Joey Bada$$, Torres, Public Access T.V. — from the champs of Long Island hip-hop to the indie pride of Bushwick and the East Village, the city will be well-represented on the stages sprawling across the Gov Ball grounds.

One noticeably absent NYC act? LCD Soundsystem. Shortly following the announcement of their Coachella 2016 booking, James Murphy confirmed that their April festival engagement wouldn’t be a one-off thing. The band will tour and release a new record in the coming year, so it’s slightly bewildering to think that they’d pass up the opportunity to play a major New York festival — until you remember that the team behind Coachella are moving in on the NYC festival market and could potentially book them as headliners for their own affair.

Tickets for Governors Ball are available here, but grab ’em quick as the limited GA pre-sale has long since sold out. In the meantime, read the lineup in full below on the Gov Ball 2016 flyer, which comes to us courtesy of DONDA, the creative agency founded by Kanye West:
