The new film Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf follows the celebrated Dutch designer Piet Oudolf as he goes about creating some of the most stunning-looking gardens on the planet. Oudolf’s garden designs are legendary the world over — you can find his work at the High Line, the Battery, the Hauser & Wirth gallery in England, and the Lurie Garden in Chicago. His environments are so striking that it’s hard for any mere photo to do them justice. Nevertheless, we’re going to try, with this slideshow of some of his most impressive designs. Enjoy.
One of Oudolf’s finest achievements is the garden he designed for the Hauser & Wirth gallery in Somerset, England. Here’s what it looks like in the summer.
There are more than a hundred species of plants at Oudolf’s Vlinderhof garden in the Netherlands’ 200-hectare Máxima Park.

Oudolf’s hand-drawn garden designs are themselves works of art, and the film shows the work that goes into them.
Oudolf’s hand-drawn plan for a perennial meadow as part of Hauser & Wirth’s gallery at Durslade Farm in Somerset, England, features bold, almost abstract patterns.
