Cadence McBride’s journey from a small town in Alberta, Canada, to the bright lights of major cities is a story of relentless passion. Many might assume that the world of dance is reserved for those with extensive training and connections, but McBride challenges this notion. She proves that determination and hard work can break barriers. Her ascent in the dance industry exemplifies how talent can shine even amid significant challenges.
Limitations as a Driving Force for Success
The dance industry is highly competitive. It often favors those with extensive experience and connections—many dancers have an uphill battle for recognition. “I didn’t grow up with the same training or exposure as others,” McBride says.
Despite these challenges, she turned her limitations into strengths. “I was constantly learning in real time, trying to understand technique, terminology, and the unspoken rules of the room,” McBride says.”That gap forced me to work harder, ask questions, and stay curious.” This fortitude helped propel her from a small studio in Ponoka into a thriving career as a professional dancer.
Big City Dreams Come True
McBride has a deep connection to dance. Initially, she was drawn to the discipline and precision of movement. Then her interest evolved into something more profound. “In a matter of time, dance was no longer a hobby,” she says. “It was who I was.”
After being scouted by the renowned choreographer Joel Ronnie, McBride made a bold decision. She left her small-town roots for the lively dance scenes of Vancouver and Boston. “Every time I moved to a bigger city, it made me fall in love with the fight of it all,” she says.
In Boston, McBride achieved a monumental milestone by signing with MSA, a top American talent agency. This achievement made her the first Canadian dancer signed by the CLI Conservatory. This accomplishment showcases her exceptional talent in a competitive environment. Her unique look and diverse skills elevated her career. “In order to be exceptional at something, you can’t be comfortable,” she says.

A Unique Contribution to Dance
McBride has created her own space within the dance community. Aside from being a performer, she’s also a thought leader. “I bring a new perspective that challenges others to think differently,” she says. Her experiences have equipped her with insights that forge new trends.
She is currently preparing to work as a principal dancer and instructor at the CLI Conservatory. These roles highlight her leadership ability and position her to influence the next generation of dancers. McBride’s commitment to continued growth, both in herself and others, speaks to her passion for the form.
On to the Next Move
Lead dancer Cadence McBride’s aspirations are as limitless as her ambition. “This allowed me to discover my ‘it’ factor,” she says. Additionally, her partnership with the MSA opens new opportunities. This affiliation enables her to explore creative projects that align with her vision. In the coming years, she hopes to dance with artists such as Kendrick Lamar and perform with Cirque du Soleil.
With hard work and a unique perspective, anyone can rise to the top. That’s an inspiring lesson from McBride’s trek from small-town life in Alberta, Canada, to big city life in America. “Believing in what you have to offer and standing strong in that is the best thing you can do for yourself,” she says.
