CREATURE COMFORTS

by

Earlier this year, Jack White, a taxidermy aficionado, had to tell fans to stop sending him pieces for his collection: “Sometimes people get it wrong, and it’s so insulting. They’ll buy me a squirrel playing pool or some shit like that.” Those fans with a sense of humor should instead bring their treasures to the fifth annual Carnivorous Nights Taxidermy Contest, where just about anything goes, from homemade taxidermy to articulated skeletons to, yes, squirrels dressed in funny costumes. The evening includes drink specials, roadkill-inspired tunes, and an illustrated lecture given by Mike Zohn, star of Oddities on the Discovery Channel and owner of Obscura Antiques and Oddities. Zohn will judge all the artsy critter creations along with the Secret Science Club’s Dorian Devins and Robert Marbury of the Minnesota Association of Rogue Taxidermists.
