Dir. Yasujiro Ozu (1958).
Intoxicated yet mellow, Equinox Flower is doubly progressive. Ozu’s first color film is also his first to side with modern daughters against their traditional fathers as a befuddled patriarch (played by an aging romantic star Shin Saburi) vainly attempts to enforce old notions of love and marriage in the brave new, multi-hued world of postwar Japan.

Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 1. Continues through Oct. 3, 2010
