Hero Dad Breaks High-Five Record

The previous Guinness world record for high-fiving has been trampled by a 49-year-old salesman from Rockland County. In a gritty performance yesterday, Sam Kass started high-fiving people in Times Square at 4:18 p.m. and finished in under four hours at 8:02 p.m., completing 3,132 high fives.

The previous record was set two years ago outside of a Dunkin’ Donuts in Providence, Rhode Island. The golf-glove-clad Kass beat the record by one high-five, with more than 20 hours to spare. Although Kass admitted to LoHud that he was in it originally for his 15 minutes of fame, he also did it to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. Two birds with one stone!

The Daily News quotes his proud 20-year-old son: “I never thought my dad would be one of those crazies in Times Square. But here he is.” Congratulations to the Kass family.

Serious question: does this put Kass ahead of the all-time king of high fives, David Puddy?
