One of the strongest Japanese films of the ‘80s (also known as Fire Festival), Mitsuo Yanagimachi’s essay on the disappearance of Japan’s archaic underpinnings is a sort of Shinto-analysis—the case history of a lumberjack who would rather sacrifice his family than sell his land for development.
