IT’S ONLY A STORY, IT’S NOT REAL

A good remedy for insomnia is Googling your favorite ’80s idols, as we recently did with Atreyu and Bastian, the adorable boy stars of the German fantasy novel turned movie The Neverending Story. What ensued was our own VH-1 version of “Where Are They Now?” and what we found out on our beloved warrior Atreyu, who fights The Nothing that is out to destroy Fantasia, and daydreamer Bastian, who, by simply reading the book, becomes a character in it, left us in hysterics. We weren’t bothered by the fact that Noah Hathaway, who played Atreyu, became a martial arts expert and a motorcycle enthusiast. It was more that he featured porn-like pictures of his wife on his MySpace page that creeped us out. Cute Barret Oliver, who aside from playing Bastian, and also starred in D.A.R.Y.L., grew up to go bald and grow a long beard for his new role as photography professor. Sigh. See these two in their acting prime at tonight’s screening of The Neverending Story.
