Meet Victoria Bekiempis, Your New Runnin’ Scared Blogger

by

As Capital NY reported earlier today, I’m leaving the Voice (my last day here is the 24th of January) for the Atlantic Wire. Coming on in my stead is Victoria Bekiempis — that’s pronounced “Bee-kemp-is” — who has been writing for the past couple weeks on Runnin’ Scared while also contributing to food news over at Fork in the Road. Victoria has a history at the Voice, where she started in April of 2010 with a humble post about veggie burgers. Since then, she’s done two cover stories for the paper, including the fascinating “Memoirs of a Jewish Geisha” and “The Cinco de Mayo Charade,” about a community leader convicted of raping his own daughter.

Victoria speaks French and Spanish, and has written for the Guardian and Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture, among other publications. She also did a stint at our sister paper in Broward County, Florida.

If you want to be further impressed, she is training for a Kilimanjaro trek, and she can drink a lot of coffee.

I’m sad to leave you guys, but thrilled about my new opportunity, and I know you’ll be in good hands with Victoria. Change! It’s good for us all.
