If we gained anything from the tragedy of losing Michael Jackson, it’s that we should appreciate the talented when they’re still alive. Thankfully, Patrick Swayze is still with us, although the actor, dancer, and singer/songwriter (yes, “She’s Like the Wind”!) continues his fight against pancreatic cancer. In honor of his awesomeness, 92Y Tribeca is devoting the next four Friday evenings to the dirty dancer with the Swayze Days of Summer, which kicks off tonight with Roadhouse, starring Swayze as a bad-ass bouncer, and a screening of numerous funny Swayze-themed short films created just for the series. Next Friday, relive the passion, the watermelon scene, the old couple stealing wallets, and the botched abortion in Dirty Dancing (preceded by a trivia quiz). July 24 is Steel Dawn, and July 31, closing out the Swayze season, is The Outsiders, featuring Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Rob Lowe, and Emilio Estevez.
Fridays, 10:30 p.m. Starts: July 10. Continues through July 31, 2009
