OF COVERS AND CULTURE

by

Yes, New York magazine takes itself too seriously sometimes–like putting a nude Lindsay posing as Marilyn on their cover. And yes, we like to make fun of them–like putting a nude Musto posing as Marilyn on ours. But that doesn’t mean we won’t be attending their 40th-anniversary bash at Hammerstein Ballroom–which, given what we know of that highbrow publication, can only be a super-stylin’ affair. Or, at the very least, humorous: STELLA, the dynamic comedy trio of Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, and David Wain, will be hosting the celebration. Headlining are Brooklyn-based indie rockers The National, whose song “Fake Empire” you may have noticed was playing during a video at Invesco Field the night Obama accepted his nomination. Brooklyn psych-pop foursome Grizzly Bear, who did some high-profile jamming by way of Lollapalooza and Radiohead this summer, open.
