Premiere: The Obits “Spun Out” Video

by

Today guitar hero Rick Froberg and the Brooklyn-based badasses he fronts, The Obits, release their third album via Sub Pop. It’s called Bed & Bugs, and it–like its predecessors–is (if you’ll allow the cognitive dissonance) a teeth gnashing, blissful good time. We got an early download of the thing last week and its been in constant rotation here at SOTCHQ. The album was recorded “somewhere in Arlington, VA,” at an unnamed recording studio by Nikhil Ranade, with additional mixing by everyone’s favorite mixers Eli Janney and Geoff Sanoff. Everything you know and love about The Obits other high-profile former band lives–[deep breath] Hot Snakes, Edsel, Drive Like Jehu, Girls Against Boys, Pitchfork–unveils itself subtly on Bed & Bugs; there are whispers of each of them throughout. The album’s first single is “Spun Out,” the video PREMIERE of which is below. It’s got everything: a toilet paper strewn basement performance, dangerous plastic bag-on-head action, close up shots of guitar necks, yawning, plaid pants, plaid shirts, gratuitous whammying of a whammy bar. Watch it below!
