The West Village will soon be home to two phenomena more closely associated with the city’s more eastern climes. At last night’s monthly Community Board 2 SLA meeting, per Eater, Alex Stupak, the executive pastry chef at wd~50, won approval for Empellon, the restaurant he’s planning to open on West 4th Street, while Bobo’s Carlos Suarez secured the board’s vote for the all-day café he’s planning to open in the storied Village Paper space.
Suarez’s plans also include a rooftop farm, something found almost exclusively on the other side of the East River; the restaurateur apparently wants to build the farm for the neighborhood’s schoolchildren. Stupak, for his part, seems focused on a taller clientele, stressing the need for late hours so as to better cater to industry types who want to stop by after work.
