Los Angeles-based psychedelic rockers the Entrance Band play some seriously heavy stuff. Formerly known as Entrance, frontman Guy Blakeslee has since combined forces with bassist Paz Lenchantin and drummer Derek James to earn the “band” addition. Together, they play extended, theatrical riffs that slay through thickly layered arrangements, with Blakeslee’s unrestrained squall piercing the fuzz–perhaps it is what convinced Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore to sign them to his Ecstatic Peace! label. Their lyrical subject matter varies–titles include “Valium Blues,” “Grim Reaper Blues,” and, uh, “M.L.K.”–but their consistency lies in their ability to shred, hard. With Amazing Baby, Winter Family, and DJ Nonformat.
