On Saturday, September 13, the fifth annual NYC Pizza Run kicked off at Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. The ground rules were simple: Run four laps around the park while stopping to eat a slice of pizza after each lap throughout the course. This year, the run attracted 140 pizza lovers, who paid a $50 registration fee, with a few completing the run in pizza costumes.
“In New York, pizza is such a quintessential food, and everyone loves to run, so I figured, ‘Why not combine running and eating pizza into a same New York City event?’ ” says Jason Feirman, founder of the race and editor in chief over at I Dream of Pizza, his very own pizza blog.
Feirman says the margherita pizzas came from Pizza by Certé (132 East 56th Street) in Midtown and proceeds went toward juvenile diabetes
