This Friday, slow it down at the Bell House with Brooklyn quartet Crystal Stilts (to your left), whose acid-tripping guitars and bellowing vocals have chill-pill-type effects. Elsewhere, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad (yes, every part of that name is necessary) spread good vibrations at Mercury Lounge with their roots reggae and experimental dub. Finally, synth-pop trio Gossip bring frenzied vocals and empowerment anthems to Terminal 5.
As for Saturday, L.A. garage band Willowz get straight to the point with emblazoned oh’ing and rock guitars at Mercury Lounge. Beauty Feast spread nostalgia for simpler days with crisp vocals and lulling guitars at Glasslands Gallery. And at Bowery Ballroom, the Album Leaf puts you in a trance with dreamy rock.
On Sunday, the Hungry Kids From Hungary (they’re actually from Australia) toy with ’60s pop and soul at the Mercury Lounge; for the venue’s late show, Royal Bangs’ soulful, electric dance tunes get you grooving. And a slew of anticon. hip-hop stars, including distortion masters Themselves, take over Bowery Ballroom.
