Les Paul, the technologically innovative and resolutely virtuosic guitarist who died last week at the age of 94, will have his New York sendoff today in a private ceremony. Paul’s manager, Michael K. Braunstein, told the A.P. that after the service and a reception in the Gibson showroom today, Paul would be buried on Friday in his hometown of Milwaukee. Residents of that city will have their own opportunity to say goodbye: there will be a four-hour public viewing at the Discovery World museum–where they’ll show a video of the guitarist’s final Milwaukee performance, from 2008– before Paul goes to his final resting place, the Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha. He’ll be buried in a family plot, alongside his mother.
