The festival that brings fan-fic to a whole ‘nother level is back—and it’s taking no prisoners. The GI Joe Stop Motion Film Festival screens an international selection of stop-motion animations with GI Joe figurines as the stars. The plastic U.S. military men, popular in American households since 1963, will be featured in shorts including Race of Evil from Taiwan, set in World War II; Britain’s Rick’s Battle Shock, a naughty tale taking place in Vietnam; and the highly anticipated Cobra’s Prom Night Crush. Just who will the evil Cobra Command fall for on this fateful night? It won’t be hunky Joe—gays weren’t welcome in the military back when Hasbro debuted Cobra in 1982, either.
