The 2010 Vendy Awards finalists were announced today, representing an impressive breadth of cuisines: Mexico, Austria, Venezuela, the Middle East, and Morocco will go head-to-head at Governors Island on September 25. Food.Curated posted video profiles about each vendor today, including this one depicting Inwood’s Patacon Pisao.
“What sells the most here is what sells the most in Venezuela,” the owners tell Food.Curated’s Liza de Guia in a subtitled video containing drool-worthy close-ups of the patacon pisao, a sandwich made out of fried plantains. Its makers proudly describe their fare as “real Venezuelan food made by real Venezuelans.”
If that $85 entry price makes you a little itchy, note that a portion of your ticket is tax-deductible, and that you’ll be supporting the Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center, which helps keep these vendors on the streets of New York.
