Spending President’s Day combing through the internet for something to do to no avail? Sleep in a little longer and enjoy the day off — we’ve already found everything you’re going to want to do this week, and we’ve rounded it up right here.
Japanese Restaurant Week, multiple locations, Monday through March 16
Starting Monday, fans of far eastern cuisine will have an opportunity to sample sea urchin, kobe beef, and pufferfish during the themed eats celebration that honors the centennial anniversary of Tokyo Station. A few of this year’s participating restaurants include Koi Soho — which will be offering a special bento box package — Megu, and Hakata Tonton. A full line up of participating restaurants can be viewed on the event’s website.
Rockaway Taco Pop-up, Nha Toi, 160 Havemeyer Street, Brooklyn, Thursday, 7 p.m.
While Rockaway Taco won’t be open until the summer, fans can get a taste of the beach stand’s fare at this pop-up dinner. Hosted by Andrew Field and the Rockaway Taco Team, the menu for the evening includes soup with chorizo and cotija cheese, seared fresh peppers, and complimentary brews courtesy of Rockaway Brewing Co.. Tickets are $45.
An Evening With Maharlika, Bowery Culinary Center, Whole Foods, 95 East Houston Street, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Chef and co-owners Miguel Trinidad, Noel Cruz, and Nicole Ponseca will discuss Filipino food and share some favorite dishes that have put the unique cuisine in the spotlight. Garlic rice, Filipino fried chicken and waffles, and oxtail stew are on the menu to highlight ingredients and techniques used most frequently. Tickets are $25.
NYC Beer Week, multiple locations, Friday through March 2
This Friday marks the beginning of a ten day festival dedicated to expanding beer drinkers’ horizons outside of Bud and Bud Light. Select venues across the city will host parties, including Paulaner Brahaus, which will throw an Oktoberfest party featuring its in-house batch of Munich Amber. The kickoff party hits Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Station and features unlimited samples of brews. Tickets for the opening night kickoff are $75; check out the line-up for the full spectrum of events.
