Where Was I Eating Those Curls of Spiced Crisps? Balaboosta!

by

These off-the-menu (but on almost every table) yucca chips are deep-fried and dusted with paprika and salt before being served at Nolita favorite, Balaboosta. Served alongside the restaurant’s “grind-it-yourself” hummus ($7) or eaten on their own, the crunchy bits are reminiscent of Spanish chicharrónes, the traditional fried pork rinds. Both dishes are equally addictive, but you’ll feel a bit more virtuous — and have more room for the rest of your meal — crunching down on the yucca chips.

No winners this week, but we’ll chalk it up to a lingering holiday hangover. Check back next Monday for another round of Where Was I Eating?
