50 Claims Responsibility for Kanye’s Success, Others’ as Well

Too Humble?

Yesterday reported that 50 Cent believes he deserves the credit for Kanye’s success:

” “I feel like Kanye West is successful because of me,” he said. “After 50 Cent, [hip-hop fans] was looking for something non-confrontational, and they went after first thing that came along. That was Kanye West, and his record took off.”

Some people thought that was a stretch. Other people, like Riff Raff, think 50 Cent is finally giving himself the credit he deserves. In fact, there are several important matters that Cent has been way too modest to claim responsibility for. Here are a few:

Dancing to Hip-Hop: Before “In Da Club,” all people did with rap music was listen to it, and maybe talk about it with their friends. 50 Cent proved to the world that rap doesn’t just have to be listening and talking–it can be dancing too. 50 Cent also can take major credit for the invention of the club.

Car Culture in Houston: Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Bun, and even Jokaman would never tip on 44s had 50 Cent not invented the automobile in 1993.

The Word “Automobile”: 50 came up with it after someone criticized the original name for his gas-powered vehicle, the “automo-fifty.”

The 50-cent piece: In 1998, 50 Cent superglued fifty copper pennies to make his 50-cent piece, which he would later use to smack Tony Yayo whenever Yayo forgot to take his meds.

Talking to yourself in the third person: This syntactical breakthrough happened when 50 Cent asked his friends in G-Unit to make him a room made entirely of mirrors. 50 Cent lasted five minutes in the room before going completely insane.

Rapping With Your Shirt Off: 50 can also be credited with rapping with your shirt half rolled-up so it looks like you’re wearing a sports bra.
