Every week or so in ‘What to B When You BYOB’ we ask a local wine store to recommend a wine to drink at a nearby BYOB restaurant. They’re asked to consider the cuisine at the restaurant and suggest an appropriate bottle for under $15.
For this week’s ‘What to B,’ we’re looking for a bottle to go with some Venezuelan arepas at the recently opened Caracas Arepa Bar (291 Grand Street, Brooklyn) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The new Caracas outpost is still waiting on a liquor license, so in the meantime you can grab a bottle down the block and across the street at Allman Fine Wine & Liquors (268 Grand Street). We told Allman we’d be having some meaty arepas. Their wine suggestion? An easy-drinking Argentine Malbec that kept us on the same continent as our arepas and held up to their beefy spiciness. Doña Paula, 2007 Malbec, $13
