It can’t all be breaking news of historic importance. WFMU’s Beware of the Blog informs us that there are words to three famous instrumentals you probably didn’t think had words: specifically “Apache,” “Honky Tonk,” and, most endearingly, “Telstar” (“Magic star above/Send a message to my love/Tell him that I wait patiently/Sad and so lonely/Dreamin’ of him only/Swift and graceful as a dove way up above…”).
Actually a lot of instrumentals have little-known lyrics, like the theme music to I Love Lucy (“I love Lucy and she loves me/We’re as happy as two can be”) and Bonanza (“We chased lady luck, ’til we finally struck Bonanza!/With a gun and a rope and a hat full of hope, planted a family tree”), which you can hear sung by series star Lorne Greene (with recitative!) above. There are many others, we’re sure; we’ll put a real reporter on it and get back to you.
