The Roxy, the somewhat legendary nightclub/roller rink/early rap spot whose run in Chelsea lasted from the late ’70s to 2007, when it was sold to developers, may be in for a resurrection. Down By the Hipster is reporting that Chelsea residents are rallying to protest the return of the club, promising to “fight this license application to the bitter end.” A hearing is set for next month. The argument being advanced by local business owners, that in the two years since the club has closed “the neighborhood has changed for the better and the Roxy no longer fits in,” seems a bit farcical to us, but good luck. The Meatpacking district will indeed survive without another club.
