After 14 years cooking at San Domenico and a mere seven months at SD26, Odette Fada is bidding the restaurant arrivederci.
Diner’s Journal reports that the split was a “joint decision” between Fada and Tony May, the owner of both restaurants. Fada reportedly wanted to “move on” and spend more time in Italy, though one wonders if SD26’s somewhat middling reception played a role in her decision.
Whatever the case, her duties will be assumed by Matteo Bergamini, SD26’s 28-year-old chef de cusine. Bergamini, a native of Italy, has been with the restaurant since he was 21 and also worked with Daniel Boulud. And having once lived in the same building as Bergamini, one-quarter of Fork in the Road would also like to add that he’s a very nice guy. Here’s wishing him the best of luck in filling Fada’s shoes.
