Last weekend, Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s daughter Georgina was thrown from her horse during an equestrian competition, fracturing her spine. This Sunday, she’s recovering in public, granting an exclusive interview to the New York Post, in which she admits that she was dumped only days after her accident. So let’s get this straight: when you’re the mayor’s daughter, you use New York City’s biggest tabloid to shit on the Olympic speed-skating gold-medalist who dumped you? Nice.
Georgina has no obvious reason to agree to a newspaper article other than to make Joey Cheek, who dumped her, look bad.
Giving her the benefit of the doubt, it is possible that she agreed to a sit-down with the Post to plug her upcoming professional projects or chat about the midterm elections, only to be quoted solely on her love life, but come on. The guy takes a beating.
The 27-year-old Georgina claims she is a self-sufficient and “not very emotional person,” but she “fell hard for the hunky 31-year-old Southerner,” according to the Post. Then, she lets him have it a little bit, in a very public way:
“The guy I was totally in love with decided that now would be an appropriate time to break up with me, which took me by surprise,” Georgina said while relaxing in her Nolita penthouse.
“I’m really surprised anyone would be so insensitive as to do it while I am down and out,” she told The Post. “It was pretty shocking, because I thought he was a really nice guy.”
She goes on:
“The timing of the break-up makes it harder, because I can’t do anything but sit here, and I was already feeling sorry for myself,” she said. “Anytime you open up to someone and you choose to trust them and include them in your life, and they turn around and say they don’t want to be part of it — that sucks.”
The NYU grad admits she wanted more from Cheek, a senior at Princeton University.
“I could have seen this going forward, but he didn’t. I think he thought I had trust issues, or that I wasn’t a very nice person, and that we weren’t a good match. At the end of the day, I don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t want to be with me.”
“There are plenty of guys out there, and there are worse things in the world than being dumped,” she continued.
Did she hire a sky-writer too? Couldn’t Bloomberg commission someone to write a last minute Broadway production around the failed romance? Honestly.
But all hope is not lost — you know, if Cheek wanted to, um, apologize or something. “We’ll probably be friends at some point down the line,” she said. You might have blown that one, girl.
