Stephen Asprinio Wants to Serve New York Pizza; Hung Huynh’s Restaurant Is Coming Sort of Soon


To the list of Top Chef alums who are opening restaurants in New York — Harold Dieterle, Leah Cohen, Nikki Cascone, Angelo Sosa, Camille Beccera, Dale Talde, Sam Talbot, and Hung Huynh — we can add Stephen Asprinio.

Asprinio, who was last seen preening and pouting his way through his brief tenure on Top Chef: All Stars, is planning to open PizzaVinoTeca, Zagat reports. It will, as its name implies, serve pizza (Roman-style thin crust) and wine, and is scheduled to open in the Financial District on January 1. Expect immediate comparisons to Adrienne’s Pizza Bar, which enjoys pride of place on Stone Street.

Meanwhile, in the Meatpacking District, Eater has noticed “coming soon” signage for Catch, the seafood restaurant from Season 3 winner Hung Huynh and the EMM Group. Located on Ninth Avenue, it is scheduled to open in the fall. As the owner of the neighboring Abe & Arthur’s, SL, and Tenjune, EMM has cornered the market on entertaining the neighborhood’s douchey masses, so they will likely have no trouble feeding them possibly endangered marine life.
