Salt Loses Its Lease on Macdougal Street

by

It’s only Tuesday, and already it’s been a bad week for shutters. To the Hercules Fancy Grocery and Film Center Café we can now add Salt, Melissa O’Donnell’s 10-year-old New American restaurant on MacDougal Street.

A friend forwarded us a message O’Donnell sent to the restaurant’s Facebook friends last Friday announcing the closure. “We lost our lease,” it reads in part. Although there’s not yet an exact closure date, it will be “soon.”

Fortunately, Salt Bar, Salt’s Clinton Street offshoot, will remain open; O’Donnell writes that, come fall, she and her staff “will be cooking Salt favorites and new dishes” there. The chef is also looking for a new location for her MacDougal Street restaurant. Its fans can check in at saltnyc.com for updates.
