Guy Fieri headed to Brooklyn over the weekend, and he had nice things to say about Roberta’s, where he feasted with Mario Batali. That, free rides to Bushwick Restaurant Week, and a heart-warming special celebrating a spelling champ make today’s round-up of neighborhood news.
Roberta’s, 261 Moore Street, Brooklyn
First We Feast has exclusive commentary from Guy Fieri on the jaunt he made to Roberta’s with Mario Batali over the weekend. Choice words from the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives king: “The borders of Flavortown have shifted, Molto! Bushwick is money, baby! I love all the artsy-fartsy crap they’ve got going on in the County of Kings and I’m telling you man, there are some badass chefs throwing it down.” His favorite pizzas? The Cheeses Christ and the Bee Sting.
Bushwick Restaurant Week, Bushwick
Speaking of Bushwick, Bushwick Restaurant Week announced via its Facebook page last week that Uber will offer free rides (up to $30 in value) to participating eateries. Just use Bushwick as a promotion code. Bushwick Restaurant Week runs June 17 through 22 and features deals from neighborhood joints like the Pine Box, the Narrows, and Cain’s Tavern.
Ben’s Best Deli, 96-40 Queens Boulevard, Rego Park
DNAInfo has a nice story about Rego Park restaurant Ben’s Best Deli, which is now featuring Arvin’s Knaidel in honor of local spelling bee champion Arvind Mahankali. The 13-year-old ignited a little controversy in the Yiddish community when he took home the national prize for spelling the Yiddish name for matzo ball k-n-a-i-d-e-l; a number of experts in that language insist that the correct spelling is kneydl.
