Rubi Rose is a 27-year-old rapper who has grown quite the following on OnlyFans, and she’s been sharing her experience on various podcasts over the last year. Her story highlights the ups and downs of using a platform like OnlyFans, as well as how many like Rose are influenced to join, despite any reservations they may have had.
The rapper joined the platform in 2020 during the pandemic, as many who were trying to stay afloat (or relevant) during that time did. While Rose first became known for her appearance in Migos’ “Bad and Boujee” music video, she struggled to get her footing beyond that experience. So while she considered joining OnlyFans, she didn’t make the decision until her then-boyfriend, fellow rapper DDG, encouraged her to.
Rose explained the situation when she appeared on Logan Paul’s podcast, ‘IMPAULSIVE’ in January 2024: “I don’t want to be known as an OnlyFans sex worker. My ex did it first. He told me to try it. People had already been suggesting it, and I was twerking on Instagram for fun anyway.”
But unlike many who have tried their hands at OnlyFans, Rose saw immediate and lasting success. She offers exclusive photos, videos, private chats, and personalized messages on the platform, and her fans and followers eat it up. She claims to make hundreds of thousands dollars every month. She makes so much that she calls making $400,000 a slow month.
And she’s even had her face tattooed on a fan. The man reportedly spent over $60,000 on her account before making the permanent decision to have her portrait needeled on him, though some have speculated that the entire thing was a publicity stunt done by Rose’s team.
But how does she feel about it five years in? Rose revealed her feelings in a recent episode of Bobbi Althoff’s The Really Good Podcast. The episode featured a “trauma dump” segment of the episode where she opened up: “My trauma dump is that my ex talked me into doing OnlyFans. It was exciting at first, but now I feel stuck. It’s affected my reputation, but I made that choice, so I’m sticking it out.”
“It was cool for the first couple of years, but now it’s like I have to keep doing it,” Rose said. “It’s just definitely put a damper on my reputation, but, you know, it’s a choice I made, and I’m just going to stick it out.”
She joins other creators who have shared the struggles of using the platform — yet like many, she can’t leave. The golden handcuffs of OnlyFans keeps people cranking out content because how do you say no to hundreds of thousands of dollars a month?
Rose simply can’t, though she did reveal more about the longterm impact OnlyFans has had on her public image and her relationships. During the episode, Althoff asked if OnlyFans had altered the way people perceive her. “Oh yeah, for sure. Especially in my relationships. I feel like guys don’t take me as seriously because I’m an ‘OnlyFans girl.’”
