ARIAS’S ARIAS

by

In Arias With a Twist, Joey Arias‘s last New York show, the drag songbird with Billie Holiday pipes morphed into a taxi-eating, New York–crushing monster. In his current concert run—his first in New York in almost a decade—the smoky-voiced 30-year vet of downtown performance continues interpreting jazz standards with surprising realism for a man in a corset, but also adds some original songs to the set. New jazz composer and musician Ben Allison heads the live band. Arias ends the run tonight, so be sure to catch him before he gets snatched up by Cirque du Soleil—again.

Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Fri., Oct. 8, 11 p.m. Starts: Oct. 1. Continues through Oct. 9, 2010
