Some people take the concept of “if you see something, say something” too far.
While the concept is great when you’re talking about an abandoned suitcase in an airport or subway platform, it’s a waste of everyone’s time and resources when someone decides to call the cops on a mom who is just doing her job.
But even in a time where OnlyFans is becoming more common, there are still people out there ready to judge women who choose the career — to the point that they will report the woman to the police.
That’s what happened to Lucy Banks, who gave up a corporate career to join OnlyFans so she had more freedom to spend time with her kids. Banks was trying to be a better mother, yet she was judged so harshly for her decision that she actually had to speak to the police.
When speaking about the decision to join the platform, she said she made the decision for financial reasons as she was going through a divorce and struggling to be there for her kids and her banking job.
When her son asked, “Do we have to go to daycare? We miss you,” she realized that something had to give. And that was her job.
“It was such a line in the sand for me. I was like, ‘I can’t do this.’ Like, it really broke me,’” she explained.
But as a newly single mom, her options were limited.
“No one was coming to save me. I didn’t have parents I could move back in with. I didn’t have any savings or anything like that. So, although it seemed drastic to some people, it just made sense for me.”
That’s when the Perth mom created her OnlyFans account. She hadn’t planned on becoming famous or super rich — she just wanted to be able to pay her bills and spend time with her children. She created an account on OnlyFans. Not for attention. For survival.
“People say they’d do anything for their kids,” Banks explained.
“Well, this was my anything.”
But the change didn’t come without consequences. Judgement came quickly and loudly.
“I think the first assumption people made was that she’s lost her mind. She’s crazy. She’s going through a divorce. She’s on OnlyFans.” Banks speculated.
“I got a lot of hate, a lot of judgment, a lot of abuse.”
People even went as far as subscribing to her account so they could screenshot the content and spread it online. They also found out where she lived and literally threw rocks at her house. That led Banks to move, but that’s when things escalated.
A police officer knocked on her door and explained, “that they had had multiple complaints” about her.
Apparently people had contacted child protection about her, though there was never any formal investigation or welfare checks — because it isn’t illegal to have an OnlyFans career. Especially when Banks goes out of her way to ensure that her “kids are never ever exposed to anything.”
While Banks is no longer an OnlyFans model, she does still work in the industry, running her own PR and marketing agency for models and porn stars, Million Billion. But no matter what she’s gone through or the hate she continues to get, she doesn’t care.
“At the end of the day, like every single decision I have made has been for them. I’d do it again,” Banks said.
