Arguably the most peculiar British movie of the 1940s, this bizarre gothic reincarnation drama was shot in France where it seems to have picked up a few of Jean Cocteau’s surrealizing mannerisms. Striking South African diva Edana Romney co-wrote and stars—the whole nutty affair seems a vanity project of hers. This was Young’s directorial debut–he would go on to give James Bond his first cinematic outing.
