Dir. Zhao Dayong (2009).
Chinese independent filmmaker Zhao Dayong goes to the head of the class with this epic, beautifully crafted observational doc—six years in the making—that hunkers down in a dusty, deserted backwater to hang out with a Christian pastor and his alcoholic brother-in-law, a pair of forcibly sundered lovers, and, most hauntingly, an abandoned 12 year-old living on the street.
