Dave Eggers—who co-wrote the screenplay for Spike Jonze’s adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are (which looks like it’s finally hitting theaters this fall)—makes his official screenwriting debut with Away We Go. The project, which he co-wrote with his wife, author Vendela Vida, is about a thirtysomething couple embarking on the nerve-wracking road to parenthood (a subject Eggers and Vida, parents of two children, have plenty of experience with). Be one of the first to see the movie (the official release date is June 5) tonight at this benefit for 826NYC, the Eggers-founded writing program for children. Saturday Night Live‘s Maya Rudolph and Jim from The Office (a/k/a John Krasinski) play the young parents-to-be. Eggers, Vida, and director Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road) host a cocktail party after the screening. A question for the writers: Who came up with the line, “I’ll always love you, even if it takes you months to lose this weight”?
