Laura Kennedy, a founding member of the New York No Wave band the Bush Tetras, passed away on Monday afternoon after a lengthy battle with Hepatitis C. Kennedy played bass in the Bush Tetras, and her bouncing basslines were crucial to the band’s melding of funk, punk, and razor-wire guitars. A here is a video from the band’s body of work below: Bush Tetras, “Too Many Creeps”

The New York label ROIR recently reissued the “Too Many Creeps” 7-inch; physical copies of the retrospective Boom In The Night are out of stock, but the collection is available on digital outlets.

Kennedy kept a blog that she started before receiving a liver transplant in late 2008; an entry from last January where she details the origins of her disease, and how she wound up in her adopted hometown Minneapolis, is particularly illuminating, if currently heartbreaking, reading.
