VOICE CHOICES ARCHIVES

LOOKING BACK

by

Giants walked among us in the late 20th century, including Trisha Brown and the late Robert Ashley. Brown, who arrived from Oregon in the early 1960s and helped found the Judson Dance Theater, first choreographed to music in her 1981 Son of Gone Fishin’ using excerpts from Ashley’s Atalanta. Reconstructed for the Trisha Brown Dance Company’s special residency, it’s on display along with the 1976 Solo Olos, Brown’s minimalist classic. Also on the bill: her stunning Opal Loop/Cloud Installation No. 72503 (1980), danced in a fog created by Fujiko Nakaya, and the recent Rogues, a 2011 duet that’s a primer of the pioneering artist’s compositional tactics. Other offerings include open rehearsals, discussions, and an archival exhibition in the Live Arts building.
