Ironically, DJs JD Twitch and JG Wilkes of OPTIMO (the DJ’ing duo and club night in Glasgow) don’t book DJs at their parties, and their latest mix CD is called How to Kill the DJ [Part Two]. They took their name from a Liquid Liquid track, and if you check the mix, you’ll see artists that are in the same vein, and some that are decidedly not (it features tracks by Carl Craig, Gang of Four, Revolting Cocks, and Soft Cell—intriguing). They’re spinning with Dan Selzer, Tim Sweeney, and Doug Mosurock. Monday @ 9, Llano Estacado, Metropolitan Ave & River St, Bklyn. The duo is also hitting the FIXED party with JDH and Dave P. Saturday @ 10, Tribeca Grand, 2 Sixth Ave, 212-519-6600
One of only two trance (or progressive house, if you prefer) DJs I could ever stomach is Sasha (the other is his long-standing DJ partner John Digweed), who is so damn good with the EQ and the cross-fader, it’s hard to tell which record is which. Ah, remember the long-lost art of mixing? He’s spinning with relative newcomer James Zabiela. Friday @ 10, Crobar, 530 W 28th, 212-629-9000
Lucky, spoiled New Yorkers: You get to see a bona fide house music legend, Louie Vega of Masters at Work fame, play at the ROOTS party in a relatively cozy club every week. Plus, he spins with Shelter’s Kevin Hedge (né Blaze), who ain’t so bad himself. And it’s at the club voted the best in the country. What more do you want? Wednesday @ 10, Cielo, 18 Little W 12th, 212-645-5700
