In screenwriter Zach Helm’s 2006 film Stranger Than Fiction, Will Ferrell starred as an IRS auditor who discovers he is the character of a novel in progress at the mercy of the author’s moods. Of course, most of us maintain some control over our lives, and for Helm’s new theater piece Interviewing the Audience, originally created by the late Spalding Gray, he brings audience members up onstage for unscripted interviews to explore the idea that we really are the authors of our own stories. Let’s hope for happy endings.
