‘Soul to Soul’

Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Yiddish-theater expert Zalmen “Shlemiel the First” Mlotek puts together a revue showcasing the links between African-American and Yiddish folk music, exploring the overlaps between klezmer and gospel alongside a cast includes trumpeter Magda Fishman, opera singer Elmore James, and actor Tony Perry. These sorts of diversions, those that combine irresistible music, education, and community, don’t come along every day.
