There are three things that define the beginning of summer for us in New York: 1) Rooftop Films, 2) Shakespeare in the Park, and 3) Brooklynite Gallery’s summer opening party! Specializing in street and pop art, the gallery kicks off the hottest season with Surface Tension, an exhibit of Guy Denning and David Walker, two Brits exploring the human form in striking ways. Denning layers oil paints and muted colors to create raw portraits of women in desolate locations, while Walker uses brighter hues and graffiti styles to capture the faces of women he’s discovered in old snapshots and magazines. Tonight, DJ Rekha spins and, as always, expect some special surprises (we hope that means they’re bringing back the snow cones!).
