TAKE BACK BROOKLYN

by

With the slew of subway altercations captured on YouTube lately, you’d think we were watching a scene out of Walter Hill’s 1979 gang-war cult hit The Warriors, which follows a group of riffraff trying to get back to Coney Island through territorial hoods in the Bronx and Manhattan. Times might not be as rough as they were back then, but you can still pretend at tonight’s costumed screening of the film, which kicks off “Brooklyn Close-Up,” a monthly series celebrating nine decades of Brooklyn film history. Dressing up in character isn’t mandatory, but how hard is it to be bare-chested and clothed in a vest and brown suede pants? Man up!
