The Growler Station and Amelie Will Soon Treat Eighth Street to Beer and Wine

The beer-in-growlers trend keeps on growing. First, Whole Foods launched its growler program, and now you’ve got bars like the Growler on Stone Street, which lets patrons purchase suds by the jug. Stepping into the arena is a new shop called the Growler Station (26 West 8th Street, 212-777-2337), which will be luring beer geeks to 8th Street to fill up their 32-ounce and 64-ounce containers of beer. After a couple months of delay, signage is now up, construction looks done, and opening day is only about a week away, according to the shop’s Facebook page.

Twenty-four lines of craft beer will be available for purchase to-go at the below-level spot. And just in time for one of the biggest beer-drinking days of the year: the Super Bowl.

But that’s not the only opening on that stretch of West 8th Street. An outpost of Amelie, the Francophilic wine bar located on Polk Street in San Francisco, is set to open at 22 West 8th Street later this year. Owner Germain Michel had been looking in New York City for some time to replicate his popular lounge that also serves meat and cheese plates, salads, snails, and flatbread. Let’s hope it pans out, as that location has been troubled in the past. Still, get excited, residents of 8th Street: Your drinking options just got a lot better.
