As many of you know, our weekly dining and drinking newsletter features all the coolest epicurean events in the city.
Greenmarket Inspired Mixology
Astor Center
August 12, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Drink responsibly! No, not in moderation, silly. Drink sustainably. Drink green. Join Allen Katz, master mixologist and chairman of the Slow Food USA Board of Directors, for a discussion on sustainability in the distillery, as well as in the cocktail glass. You’ll get to compare local foods and drinks to their mass-produced counterparts. Because, apparently, the drink chain is just as important as the food chain.
Summer Corn Fiesta
Dos Caminos Park
August 15, 11:30-2:30 p.m.
Corn season is in full swing and Dos Caminos is inviting you to celebrate it with a corn-centric modern-Mexican cooking class. Corn will be in everything from the cocktails (homemade candied corn margarita) to dessert (sweet corn tamales with corn-raspberry swirl ice cream). Participants also get a copy of Dos Caminos’ Mod Mex cookbook.
Lunch is served: Panini, Porchetta, and More!
Italian Wine Merchants
August 15, 1-3 p.m.
If you like your meals portable and couched between two slabs of bread, then this is the tasting event for you. IWM is hosting a walk-around tasting of chef-made panini, steak sandwiches, and porchetta sandwiches, all crafted from its in-house salumeria, and paired with an array of its lunch-friendly wines, including Castello di Cacchiano Chianti, Valle dell’Acate Cerasuolo, and Tenuta dell’Ornellaia Le Volte.
