There was a definite uproar recently when Yahoo! CEO Marissa Ann Mayer announced to her employees that work-from-home privileges would no longer be allowed. Some said this new mandate would be a trip back to the Stone Ages, especially for parents who benefit most from a flexible schedule. Certainly Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, ranked number 10 on Forbes magazine’s 2012 list of the Most Powerful Women in the World, should have plenty to say on the matter at this discussion for her new book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. The book, which Sandberg hopes will spark a new women’s movement in the workplace, examines the lack of women in leadership roles (she found women often underestimate their abilities while men consistently overestimate themselves) and what can be done to solve the problem. Her first solution? Creating “Lean In Circles,” small support groups for women who want help achieving their goals. Find a group to join tonight at Barnes and Noble.
