Were she flesh and blood rather than mere plastic, Barbie would stand approximately five feet six inches tall, weigh 110 pounds, have a 39-inch bust, an 18-inch waist, and 33-inch hips: just about the size of a waifish supermodel with breast implants. Maybe that’s why these Barbies look so good in miniature versions of the spring collections, made by Mattel from authentic fabrics supplied by the designers themselves. The mini-mannequins are on display at Jeffrey, that fancy new store in the meatpacking district (449 West 14th Street), until December 16, and are being sold by silent auction for the benefit of the Hetrick-Martin Institute, so hurry over—even if you bid $1000, it’ll be cheaper than the asking price of most of these getups when they hit the uptown shops over the next few months.
